D-CON 2013 & EVILOS

Last Saturday Debra Snell Photography headed over to D-Con 2013 in Pasadena California. Having never been to a Designer Con event, I wasn't sure what to expect. Boy was this trip entertaining and filled with incredible artists. There were Dinosaurs , Mermaids and Monkeys oh my!!

This Christmas Tree with a real attitude was pretty creepy cool.

This Cutie  from "NRC Relic" was a favorite of mine.
I must say though the D-Con fans really intrigued me. They came in all shapes and sizes with Tattoos and toddlers in tow.

Dedicated to the designers and determined to get up close and personal with these amazing pieces of art.

This guy and many others couldn't get close enough to evaluate the pieces form the Artist known as "EVILOS" Check out his work.

Many fans from across the country even stopped to chat it up with Christopher Avalos, or EVILOS.

Fans wanted to know Evilos's inspiration for his pieces, and the "HOW" of how he crafted those crystal clear works of art.  There were generations of families that came to D-Con.  Families who have clearly passed on their passions, for these artists and their art work.

When EVILOS was tweeting about the event, his wife Heidi was front and center to welcome fans & customers.

In fact many of the vendors were working side by side with other family members. Not only was this a fascinating event to attend, I learned to really appreciate the world of Urban Artistry.

Its was evident by the sheer number of people in attendance, that  I have come to this party a bit late.  None the less, I am aboard the D-Con train now and can't wait to attend the next show.

"HOLLYWOOD HAIR GUY" AND HIS DREAM TEAM

When I received a call from my Client & Friend Dean Banowetz, most of you probably know him as "The Hollywood Hair Guy", that he wanted to do a photo shoot with his dream team, Meagan Herrera and Cory Rotenberg, I was THRILLED.  I Love shoots that are just plain FUN!! To say Dean and the ladies are Fun is an understatement.

They are pretty much ready for ANY Hair challenge and have stealth solutions for every split end or freezy frenzy.  They work so well together, they are like a secret mission team working every angle of your beauty disaster.

In real life they are each over flowing with personality. But don't get me wrong, Dean will crack the whip to get the job done.  Watching them working together is like watching a well choreographed dance. They are in "their" zone and seem to know exactly what the other is thinking, as they are crafting their  masterpiece.
Oh don't get me wrong, there are many moments of  laughter during the process of primping. Dean has more one liners than a stand up comic who is on a roll.  Which is the reason I really look forward to capturing any moment with this magic man.

And now a special recognition for Dean and his Team.  A feature article in "Hot World Class Beauty" magazine. Check it out now!
So proud of Dean, Meagan and Cory they all deserve this wonderful honor. Debra Snell Photography says  "Wigs off to you" team.  You are one CLASS ACT!. Cheers to you Martini Man.

THIS 4th OF JULY WE LAUGHED & CRIED

You expect to enjoy yourself at a 4th of July Parade, and we did.  Especially because this year we had a few new friends with us who has NEVER been to a parade.

Nancy and two of her children, Meagan and Dean,  came to the Sierra Madre parade with us. A particularly special parade considering we spent many years watching all the festivities with my mom and Pappa. Besides who of us doesn't appreciate the cuteness of a Mayberry RFD style parade.Ok some of you may not be old enough to understand the refrence I know. Its the sweetness and uniqueness of small town America.

FIND YOUR INNER DIVA

Whether you are a person interested in having professional photos done for the first time, or you are a bit obsessed with "Selfies", always remember that each of us has an inner Diva.  So don't just do the easy pouting of your lips, or over reach for the sexy look, dig deep down inside and reach for that inner Diva and have fun.  Image you are posing for the cover of a magazine, or that you are on a tropical Island and shooting for Sports Illustrated.  Ok maybe you just stepped off of a huge movie studio lot  and feel like a star. My point is you can have gorgeous images if you just believe and trust your photographer.  Case in point Acacia Lain Peers, an admitted lover of Selfies, but not real experienced in front of a professional photographers camera. You would never know that by the image below.

Acacia took direction beautifully, and was as graceful as she could be, given the fact that I asked her to arch her back  beyond her comfort level, while standing on one foot wearing 3 inch heels.  The mood was very Old Hollywood, one of my favorite styles to shoot, and the makeup and hair and location ( an industrial park quiet on a sunday) added to our desire to transport her to the past.

But all of those elements alone would not have created these wonderful images, unless Acacia was willing to believe she could be that Sexy Siren of Old. She replied on me to guide her to that place she had never been.  As a result the next image has become my most viewed photo on FACEBOOK.

Acacia captured the essence of the woman in her imagination. I'd say pretty convincing for a 21 year old on her first professional shoot. Did we connect as photographer/client yes! Did she give it her all absolutely!  It's safe to say Acacia surprised herself.
Her is a peek at a few more of her magical moments.

Ok so it's time for you to reach for your best the next time you are in front of the camera.  Something out of your comfort zone that is classic. Go ahead and make Debra Snell Photography proud.  We love beauty of all kinds, especially if it comes from deep within you!!

Next time , one of my favorite people to photograph.  He truly has more personality or is it personalities, than any one I know. LOL Oh and he has more talent in his little finger than many do in their whole body.  Just a hint, it's time to go Hollywood in Style.
